STEAMming 4Youth in 2022
Since 2017 we have been closely following Science teachers at https://mysteryscience.com and many friendly fun activities to help put into practice and help engage and create curiosity in my own son and his friends while attending virtual school. Given the importance of staying protected not only during the pandemia but beyond has been the key to being able to create while having fun. Let's look at a sample video of an activity to talk about with children related to allergies.
We enjoyed the activity so much that I went to work at the Museum of Science and Discovery in Fort Lauderdale while my son attended virtual school. Sponsored by the museum foundation, he enjoyed the afterschool science activites and playing outdoors at the Science park. I was honored to make a presentation during Career Day to the 5th grade class at Franklin Academy Sunrise, a local charter school. My son's 5th grade Language Arts teacher, Ms. Hopke, was so welcoming to have me during that virtual event as a parent volunteer. It was such a great experience to see everyone interested, and asking questions of what it was like to work at the museum not to mention the happy face๐ฆon my 10 yr old while I presented to the class, and his classmates interested in the Dino presentation. They seemed to like the idea of working at a Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science. Click the link below to see the google slide presentation used.
Career day presentation - pod lead
We can now look back and remember how fun we all had right after even having our first virtual career day presentation, and STEAM drive-thru birthday party followed by the virtual get together. What a great way to create connections and #remakelearning!

Here are some ways to help kids reflect on the video about allergies
1. Why do we have allergies?
2. What did this video make you curious about? What other questions do you have?
Bonus Activity:
If you're allergic to pollen, you feel sick when it gets in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Invent something you can wear on your face that keeps pollen out but lets you breathe. Describe or draw your invention. If you have supplies you can use, try to build it!
